Coaching helps clarify direction…

Everybody’s going somewhere! Sorta.

Some people are progressing in their life journey, living their dreams, setting goals and seeing them accomplished. Some people are wandering without direction – still dreaming and moving but not sure they are accomplishing anything. And some people are going in circles seeing the same landscape over and over, not really going anywhere.

Coaching helps people clarify their direction.

Highly motivated people are going somewhere. They have movement in their lives; they live to see things changed in their world.

But sometimes even their journey gets slowed down by the many demands and disappointments of life, family, business and world. Obstacles just get in the way and their lives get detoured. Where they should be going becomes unclear and how to get there seems impossible.

My daddy used to tell the story about a fellow from the country that got lost in big city traffic. When asked about the experience he replied, “I didn’t know where I was going, but I sure was making good time!”

Making “good time” in the wrong direction is no real compensation for being lost. A coach helps bring back clarity of direction. Re-visioning helps bring clarity. The coach brings the right questions allowing the visionary person being coached to rethink their direction. The coach helps reframe their bearings to bring back precision to the course of the journey.

A coach might ask these questions (or a whole bunch more):
• If your present situation were ideal, what would it look like?
• Where do you see yourself in five years? Three?
• What could you change in your life right now that would bring you greater satisfaction?

Just asking these questions helps bring clarity to the situation.

Everybody is on a journey. It should be a journey in the right direction. A little help never hurts.
